Kent city council on June 3 authorized the city to accept $175,000 in grant funds from the Washington Traffic Safety Commission to support the city’s DUI court for the 2025–26 grant cycle.
The grant will cover urinalysis collection and testing, substance use disorder assessments, treatment and counseling, clean-and-sober housing, probation staff, interpreter costs, home monitoring and team training, City Court Administrator Candace Enders told the council. Enders said the DUI court began in 2017 and that the proposed grant amount matches the previous cycle.
The council voted to accept the funds, amend the budget, authorize related expenditures and give the mayor authority to sign required documents subject to final terms acceptable to the court administrator and city attorney. Council member Fincher urged colleagues to observe the court’s proceedings.
The motion passed without recorded opposition. The council did not discuss changes to the program’s eligibility criteria or staffing as part of the motion.
