Board approves $138,420 IGA to fund county child-care health consultation services

The Cochise County Board of Supervisors approved an intergovernmental agreement (GRA-State-24-1242-01-Y2) on June 3 to continue county health consultative services to child-care centers, funded at $138,420 for July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026. Health and Social Services staff said the program has been grant-funded since 2015 and supports two part-time staff who provide on-site consultation, training, safety and infection-control assistance to child-care centers.
Public Health staff said the program covers 43 centers serving 2,772 enrolled children; consultants conduct safety checks, training (including CPR) and technical assistance, and the funds pay staff through state grant dollars. Supervisor questions noted the program’s staffing is lean for the caseload; staff said that failing to participate in the program could affect a center’s star rating and eligibility for funding and could lead to state action.
The board voted to approve the IGA; the motion passed on voice vote.
