Supervisors approve abandonment of Jacobo Place right-of-way in Naco

The Cochise County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved on June 3 a resolution to abandon a portion of a 100-foot public right-of-way known as Jacobo Place in the townsite of Naco, at the request of property owner Renee Reed. The engineering department reported the applicant paid administrative and land-purchase fees; staff found no utilities in the right-of-way and said no parcel would be denied legal access if the abandonment is granted.
Engineering noted one letter of opposition from the Naco Sanitation Chair, who preferred the way remain open as a public trail with wildlife benefit. The county’s site review team reported the right-of-way is not open for vehicle travel and is native desert with vegetation; the applicant said she plans to combine the parcels adjacent to the right-of-way and does not intend to fence the area.
The board voted aye on the motion to approve the abandonment; the motion passed unanimously.
