Treasure Coast Waterway Cleanup set for July 26; city seeks volunteers and partners

City of Sebastian staff and volunteers are preparing for the 18th annual Treasure Coast Waterway Cleanup, with the main event scheduled for 8 a.m.–12:30 p.m. Saturday, July 26, and a self-reporting cleanup week from July 19–27.
The cleanup is organized by the Marine Industries Association of the Treasure Coast with local partners; the city is coordinating site leadership, volunteer registration and outreach materials, the staff member overseeing the event told the Natural Resource Board.
The event’s main meeting point will be the Captain Robert Hardy Main Street boat ramp. Volunteers can register online at tcwaterwaycleanup.com or join during cleanup week by picking a local water body and reporting their efforts.
Staff shared a sponsor flyer showing partners including the Marine Resources Council, Harbor Branch, Waste Management and the city, and said the Marine Resources Council provided low-impact living checklists and a flyer on harmful algal blooms for public outreach. The board was asked to help publicize the event and identify who can attend.
The staff member serving as city point for the cleanup said a planning committee meeting would be held the following week and encouraged board members to attend virtually. No formal action or funding decision was taken during the meeting.
