Planning commission backs five residential-to-agricultural and residential rezonings unanimously

At its June 3 meeting the Pittsylvania County Planning Commission recommended unanimous approval of multiple rezoning petitions converting parcels between R-1 and A-1 and a small R-1 consolidation; all motions passed 7-0 and will be forwarded to the Board of Supervisors.
The Pittsylvania County Planning Commission unanimously recommended approval June 3 for several rezoning petitions the staff presented as consistent with the county’s comprehensive plan.
Cases R-25-012 (Victor and Nell Hardy, 46.81 acres from R-1 to A-1), R-25-013 (Harold Junior and Caroline Carver, 83.49 acres from R-1 to A-1), R-25-014 (Kingdom Land LLC, 19.046 acres with a split rezoning between A-1 and R-1 to allow subdivision), R-25-016 (Andrew Junior and Jacqueline Oaks, 0.248 acres from A-1 to R-1 for lot consolidation) and R-25-017 (Tony and Annette Willis, 4.27 acres R-1 to A-1) were each presented with staff summaries contained in the public packet and discussed briefly by applicants or their representatives.
No members of the public registered opposition for these cases during the hearings. Commissioners moved and seconded recommendations to forward each rezoning request to the Board of Supervisors; each motion carried 7-0 on voice vote.
The commission chair emphasized that decisions should be “directed to the health, safety and general welfare of the citizens of Pittsylvania County” and consistent with the comprehensive plan, language recited at the start of the hearing. These recommendations are advisory; the Board of Supervisors will make final determinations.
