Southborough Planning Board reappoints officers, sends committee recommendations to Select Board

At its June 2 meeting the Town of Southborough Planning Board reappointed its chair and vice chair and voted recommendations for multiple committee appointments and regional representatives for the coming year.
The Town of Southborough Planning Board on Monday reappointed Mimi Littrell as chair and Marnie Houlihan as vice chair for the coming year and approved a slate of committee and regional-representative recommendations for referral to the Select Board.
The actions formalize the planning board’s leadership and its nominees for standing committees and outside collaborations, a routine annual organizational step the board takes each June.
Board members moved through a list of recommended appointments and votes. The board approved recommending Jesse Stein for the deed-research subcommittee (term to expire 06/30/2026). The board also recommended appointments to the master-plan implementation committee—Sam Stivers, Debbie Demuria, William Warren and Alan Belniak—with terms expiring 06/30/2026; Lisa Braschio was recommended to remain the planning-board representative to the Community Preservation Committee (three-year recommendation to the Select Board); and Littrell was reappointed as the board’s MetroWest Regional Collaborative representative for a one-year term.
At the meeting Deb Demuria and Alan Belniak were nominated as the two planning-board appointees to the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) for two-year terms; the board voted to recommend Deb Demuria and appoint Belniak with terms expiring 06/30/2027.
Board members discussed whether some committee seats were intended for select-board representatives, noting the master-plan implementation committee’s charge does not require a select-board designee. “It does not specify,” board members said when reviewing the committee charge, and the board agreed to reach out to the Select Board if they wanted to place a representative on that committee.
Votes on appointments were taken by voice; several recorded motions included abstentions noted by the clerk. Most votes were recorded as “all in favor” with individual ‘yes’ and occasional ‘abstain’ statements recorded during roll-call approval of each motion.
The board also recommended that Lisa Braschio continue as the planning-board representative to the 21 Highland Street future-use committee, with the appointment carried through the committee term or until 06/30/2026, and concluded the organizational portion of the agenda so it could proceed with scheduled discussion and hearing items.
Board members said they will deliver the recommendations to the Select Board for formal appointment where required.
