Council approves permits for summer races, fundraisers and public events

The Jasper City Council approved a set of special-event permits at its May 20 meeting covering school races, fundraisers and community gatherings, presenter Kelly Barnes told the council.
Barnes listed the requests: Jasper High School's cross-country summer 5K series, running Tuesdays in June from 6 to 7 p.m., starting and ending at T.R. Simmons using the same routes as the prior two years; a family reunion at the Smith Center on Friday, June 6 with a requested street blockage on Euclid Avenue from Crutchfield Boulevard to 20 Sixth Street; Camp Cool's 5K and car wash fundraiser on Saturday, June 28 at the Veil State Loan on Gamble Avenue using the preapproved turkey trot route beginning and ending at Gamble Park with a requested blockage on Gamble Avenue; an Overdose Awareness Walk on Sunday, Aug. 30 at the Courthouse Square; and Soberfest on Oct. 4 at the Courthouse Square.
