Council adopts two stop-sign changes after Public Safety Committee review

The Superior Common Council on June 3 approved two traffic-ordinance amendments recommended by the Public Safety Committee to add stop control at two intersections.
One ordinance amends city code Chapter 112, Schedule A, to change Twentieth Avenue East at East Tenth Street from a two-way stop to a four-way stop. The second ordinance adds a stop at ******* Avenue at North Thirteenth Street to the traffic code’s two-way stop list.
Public Safety Committee members reported that the Twentieth/East Tenth intersection had been evaluated and that a planned traffic circle was not feasible because trucks could not clear it safely; the committee instead recommended stop signs. The additional stop at North Thirteenth Street was proposed after a constituent highlighted safety concerns near the government center and the county overflow parking lot.
Both ordinances passed on voice votes after motions and seconds were made at the council meeting. The committee said the measures aim to improve traffic safety at the specified locations.
