The City Council voted to fill two advisory‑board vacancies for parks and recreation and one vacancy on the Environmental Advisory Board during the meeting.
For the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, the council appointed Jeff Brabham and Brian Seifert. Brabham, an 11‑year Port Orange resident and volunteer at the adult activity center, spoke about his fundraising and corporate sponsorship experience and said he would pursue corporate donations to expand scholarships and programming. Seifert was nominated by a councilmember based on his long involvement in youth athletics and umpiring; Seifert could not attend the meeting because he was on his honeymoon.
Council members then appointed Kathleen Malagal to the Environmental Advisory Board. Malagal told the council she is a longtime resident, small‑business owner and community volunteer who has been active with the Port Orange South Daytona Chamber of Commerce and Port Orange University and has an interest in pollinator gardens and environmental stewardship.
Motions to appoint each nominee were seconded and passed by roll call votes (three yes votes noted). The new appointees were welcomed and staff will coordinate onboarding and future meeting schedules. No compensation or budgetary changes were associated with the appointments.
