Board approves budget amendments and interim budget resolution ahead of fiscal year close

The Granville County Board of Education approved several budget amendments and adopted an interim budget resolution to allow district operations to continue while staff finalizes year-end accounting.

Finance staff presented state, local, federal and capital outlay amendments. The capital amendment increased the capital budget by $915,000 to record donated assets, including two electric buses received via grant and a concession stand at South Granville High School; the amendment did not increase district cash but posted the value of donated capital items as required. Child Nutrition revenue projections were adjusted downward by about $268,000 to reflect lower-than-expected receipts; other restricted funds rose by $6,331 to account for recycling revenue and several small donations.

Board members moved and approved the budget amendments by motion (motion made by Board Member Hayes; second by Board Member Russell). Later the board approved an interim budget resolution required before June 30 to allow the superintendent and staff to continue necessary spending as the fiscal year is closed out.

Why it matters: The amendments are routine year-end adjustments; the capital posting records donated assets on district books. The interim resolution authorizes operations to continue through the fiscal close and into the next budget-adoption cycle without interruption.

Implementation: Finance staff said they expect additional year-end savings that will reduce the planned use of fund balance from an earlier estimate; a detailed year-end report was scheduled for the June 23 work session.
