Board approves Granville County AIG plan for 2025–28, expands identification and teacher supports

The Granville County Board of Education approved the district's AIG (Advanced and Gifted) program plan for the 2025–28 school years after a presentation from the AIG coordinator and staff.

The plan adds four new identification pathways, clarifies subject- and grade-acceleration administrative procedures, expands digital instructional resources for differentiated learning, and creates a local endorsement pathway for teachers to better support gifted learners. The plan also emphasizes alignment with the district's Portrait of a Graduate and commits to a tiered program of talent development, acceleration, extension and enrichment.
Board Member Danielle Hayes moved to approve the plan; Board Member Amanda LeBrecht seconded. The board approved the AIG plan by voice vote.
Why it matters: The approved plan changes how the district identifies gifted students, how classroom differentiation will be supported, and adds local training to grow teacher capacity without requiring immediate state licensure changes. The district plans to implement the plan beginning in fall 2025.
Administrative note: The plan must be submitted to the North Carolina Office of Gifted Education (as described in the plan) for any feedback and final state-level review prior to or concurrent with local implementation.
