County approves new sidewalks at annex; paving of parking lot deferred, gravel lot proposed

The Page County Board approved construction of new sidewalks around the annex building and deferred a decision about paving a new parking lot, after staff and an engineering technician reviewed updated quotes.

Nick Hyer, engineer technician, presented revised estimates and said he had updated quantities, dimensions and exclusions for the sidewalk and parking work. He told the board he had reached out to several local contractors, saying, “I reached out to Sticklers, Barnes and Son, and, 10 point construction.” Hyer noted one contractor’s total quote for the combined parking lot and sidewalk work was approximately $56,000; the sidewalk‑only line items listed about $6,000 in materials and $6,500 in labor (roughly $12,500 total) and Hyer said a matching grant would halve the county’s sidewalk expense.

Board members debated awarding the full contract; an initial motion to approve the full parking‑lot and sidewalk contract failed for lack of a second. After further discussion about scope, compaction over an old church foundation, snow removal and long‑term maintenance, the board voted to approve the sidewalk work around the building and to use a gravel surface for the proposed new parking area for now. A supervisor said handicap‑accessible pavement would remain at the lower lot, and the new gravel lot would be limited to employee parking.

Why it matters: The county will repair and extend sidewalks that were described as uneven and missing sections and will add nearby overflow parking; the paving scope and contractor selection for the full parking lot were postponed, affecting project timing and budget planning.
