Tuscaloosa introduces new fire chief; chief's first day set for June 14

Mayor and staff on June 3 formally introduced the city's newly appointed fire chief and thanked interim leadership for covering the department during the transition.
The mayor introduced Chief Delk, noting Delk's education and long tenure with the department. "Chief's first official day will be June 14," the mayor said. The mayor said Delk holds undergraduate and master's degrees from Jacksonville State University and has been with the department since 2006 (as discussed during the introduction).
The mayor also recognized Acting Chief Vaughn for serving during the interim. The mayor described Vaughn's recent service at Fire Station 7 and thanked him for maintaining department continuity during the transition. Chief Delk addressed the council briefly: "I am humbled and honored to be here," he said, and expressed his intention to work with the city and department.
No formal vote or ordinance was required for the introduction; Delk's appointment was made previously and the council used the meeting to introduce him to the public and the council.
