City staff on June 3 presented nominees and reappointment requests for several Tuscaloosa boards and commissions and the council agreed to place the items on next week's agenda for formal action.
Randy Johnson, a city staff member, told the council that two members of the Tuscaloosa National Airport Advisory Committee — Kelsey Rush and Justice Smith — have terms that expired and wish to continue; staff will place an ordinance on next week's agenda to reappoint them. "That's gonna be Miss Kelsey Rush and Justice Smith," Johnson said.
Johnson also reviewed Mayor-recommended appointments to the Historic Preservation Commission. He said five seats had terms that expired; three incumbents do not wish to be reappointed and two do. "Kathy Pagani would like to be reappointed. Wayne Yarbrough wishes to be reappointed," Johnson said. The mayor recommended appointing Carl Ellebash, Patricia Stone and Cooper Shattuck to fill other vacancies; those recommendations will be presented as ordinances on next week's agenda.
On the Tuscaloosa Public Library board, a heavy slate of applications was received. Johnson asked the council for an additional week to finalize recommendations; council members agreed to return the item to next week's agenda to allow additional review. Council members noted specific long‑serving members who are rolling off, including Olympia McCracken and Virginia Ennis.
No final appointments were made at the June 3 meeting; staff will place the recommended reappointments and nominations on the council agenda for final vote next week.
