Sheridan County approves four-year contract for wildfire mitigation plan with Chris Thomas

Sheridan County commissioners on June 3 voted to approve a contract with contractor Chris Thomas to carry out fire-mitigation work required by a Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) grant.
Cameron Duff, the county's administrative director, told the commission the grant requires a contract to perform the CWPP work and that the county has historically used Chris Thomas for these services. "The contract is for 05/01/2025 through 09/15/2029," Duff said, adding that while the county may seek bids in the future, the timeline gives four years to complete the plan and associated work.
Commissioners moved to approve and authorize the chairman to sign the contract as required. The motion passed with an affirmative voice vote.
County staff said the CWPP effort is a grant-funded update to the last plan, which was completed in 2018, and that the contract wording was revised to reflect current GRAMA language and grant terms. Commissioners did not add conditions to the contract during the meeting.
Next steps are administrative: staff will execute the contract, and the contractor will proceed with work under the grant timetable.
