Council approves supplemental NYSDOT funding agreement for Crescent Avenue Bridge replacement

The Amsterdam Common Council on May 20 approved a supplemental funding agreement with the New York State Department of Transportation to close the funding gap for the Crescent Avenue Bridge replacement, a project originally programmed under the BridgeNY program in 2018.
City engineer Michael Clark told the council the project is now approaching construction in 2025 after pandemic‑era delays and price increases. Under the supplemental agreement, the project remains 95% federally reimbursable; the city’s share is capped at $156,000, which Clark said he intends to pay from the city’s CHIPS allocation.
Clark said the rebuilt span will be a two‑lane bridge with sidewalks and is currently posted for a 3‑ton limit; the new structure will remove that restriction and allow emergency and school‑bus traffic. “I expect that the contractor will mobilize the site in late June. Really, I don't expect demolition and closure to occur much before the July 4,” Clark said.
Council members voted to file the certified resolution with the state commissioner of transportation; the resolution takes effect immediately.
