The Merrimack County Board of Commissioners approved a package of personnel changes that included adding registry positions for recreation, reclassifying a facilities position into an electrical systems technician, and converting a full‑time housekeeping aide into a full‑time housekeeping shift leader at the county nursing home.
Ross Johnson and Wendy Heath described the personnel items. Ross said the recreation proposal adds a registry resident assistant role to increase flexible hiring and to give seasonal or per‑diem workers a clear entry point for county employment. The registry positions allow workers to sign up for hours and generally require at least eight hours a month. "A lot of traction... with the college kids," Ross said, and staff noted that registry workers do not receive benefits but can earn time‑and‑a‑half for holiday work.
Separately, facilities staff asked to reclassify an existing facilities worker 2 FTE into a newly created electrical systems technician position. The county presented the new job description and said the internal candidate under consideration has about 13–14 years of on‑the‑job electrical experience but is not currently a licensed electrician. Labor grade 10 was cited for the role, with a pay range described in the meeting as "$29.62 to $42.95 per hour." Officials said the county will continue to contract licensed electricians for work that requires a licensed professional.
At the nursing home, commissioners approved changing a full‑time housekeeping aide position into a full‑time housekeeping shift leader to provide a permanent third‑shift lead and strengthen overnight operations. Staff said the shift leader will help organize off‑shift work and that shift differentials apply for night work.
All three items were moved, seconded and approved by voice vote during the meeting. Commissioners also noted the personnel changes create internal promotional opportunities and help address recruiting challenges in part‑time and night‑shift roles.
