City Manager Darryl George updated the El Segundo City Council on June 3 about recent activity at the Hyperion bioenergy facility.
George said the South Coast Air Quality Management District received 16 odor complaints in the prior two weeks but had not issued any notice of violation. On June 3 at 7:45 a.m., Hyperion's bioenergy facility experienced a shutdown of combustion gas turbine number 2; the cause remained under investigation and some digester gas was flared intermittently until 8:35 a.m.
George also announced community tours of Hyperion scheduled for June 18 at 1 p.m. and July 12 at 10 a.m., and provided the city's Hyperion web page for sign-ups. The update was informational; the transcript does not record any formal action by council on the item.
