Baldwin County proclaims Beach Safe Week ahead of summer season

The Baldwin County Commission proclaimed the week of May 2025 as Baldwin County Beach Safe Week to coincide with the start of the summer beach season and National Beach Safety Week.
The proclamation text noted that Baldwin County’s coastal and inland beaches draw millions of visitors and that hazards such as rip currents can be managed through public awareness and professional lifeguards. The proclamation urged residents and guests to check weather and surf conditions daily, swim near a lifeguard, sign up for daily surf-condition text alerts, learn how to escape a rip current and know what to do if someone else is in danger.
Commissioners and guests highlighted recent outreach and demonstrations that included lifeguard rescues and a Beach Safe campaign that began in 2022. County officials thanked municipal tourism partners, first responders and media partners for supporting the outreach campaign. County staff singled out Jessica Waters for coordinating outreach work.
A motion to approve the proclamation passed on a voice vote; the chair recorded "Aye" and declared the motion carried.
