Findlay parks report outlines summer camps, tournaments and routine maintenance

Lisa, parks staff, told the board the department completed a successful winter ice season and that summer programming is underway, including "learn to skate" camps, two sessions for hockey and skating, and a Westside Hockey Camp in two weeks.

She said the parks department is partnering with Hancock Public Library and Hancock Public Health on a "Summer Connect" effort to combine health, nutrition, literacy and activities for children; a kickoff event and a bicycle rodeo with the police department were scheduled. Lisa also reported weekend youth baseball and softball tournaments at the Diamonds through June and July, UF baseball and softball camps next week, and several weekend tournaments that sometimes use multiple fields across the city.

Dave, parks maintenance lead, reported completion of a bandshell-stage extension and that the pool is operational. He said crews volunteered to mulch at Emery and Bernard playgrounds, repaired broken parking blocks, added sand and regraded ball fields and are paving or preparing small basketball courts.

Gary, parks district staff, said the park district is running 19 summer camps and additional programs, has added golf rentals at Riverside Park and plans fall color trips. He noted cleanup and preliminary plans at Paris Bendy, including a picnic shelter replacement and new walking access in future improvements.

Board members thanked staff for operations, and no formal decisions were taken. Staff flagged several upcoming events and sales on the dry floor when ice is removed (hot tub sales, an MMA event and a card show) and said public engagement for the downtown recreation design would include surveys and posted materials.

The board closed the meeting after moving on to the agenda item on the downtown recreation area.
