El Segundo wins 9-2; nine seniors honored in final home game

The El Segundo Eagles varsity softball team beat the Defenders 9-2 at Recreation Park in the final home game of the regular season, and the program honored nine seniors before the first pitch.
The senior-night ceremonies preceded a strong offensive showing: El Segundo scored three runs in the bottom of the first and added a run in the second to open a 4-0 lead. Ali Stephenson delivered a run-scoring blast in the second inning and later produced a two-RBI single in the fourth that extended the lead. Maggie Green followed with a single, and Kasey Ekstrom drove in two more runs in the fourth, giving the Eagles a 9-2 advantage they maintained to the final out in the seventh.
The game was the regular-season home finale for the team; the nine seniors received on-field recognition before play. Afterward, coach Mayer called the result and the senior send-off an emotional moment. “I’m just proud. That’s what I told off the game. I’m super proud. I mean, I’m still elated over the walk off win to to win to win league. Yeah,” Mayer said.
Players who spoke after the game described the night as special. One senior said it “feels really good to play around my teammates and best friends and pick up a dub and even also do good.” Another senior noted, “I just thought it was really cool how we have 9 seniors, and they all gotta play. We’re all in the field all the same time, and that really happened.” A different senior reflected on her four years at the field: “I’ve played here all 4 years, and it was just really nice to be able to hug my teammates and have a good send off.”
