CTC feasibility study options span $79 million to $117 million; board cautions on renovation trade-offs

The Northern Lebanon School District board on June 3 received a feasibility update from Director Klein on the county Career & Technology Center (CTC) study. Consultants from Beers and Hoffman presented six options for renovation or new construction with estimated construction costs between $79 million and $117 million.
Klein said the board is not ready to present a formal plan. The CTC will need to coordinate with the other five county school districts and the CTC authority on financing and governance steps before any district-level presentation. Klein said next steps include circulating the options to business managers across the county school districts to assess affordability.
Board members and administrators discussed trade-offs between renovation and new construction. Renovation is likely to be more financially feasible for the CTC but raises concerns about moving heavy equipment and maintaining hands-on instruction during construction. "When you renovate, you run into problems... there's a lot of heavier equipment there that... some of those rooms cannot be moved," an administrator said, noting the need to adapt hands-on programs to temporary methods if renovation proceeds.
No votes were taken on CTC options at the June 3 meeting; administrators will continue countywide coordination and report back.
