Northern Lebanon SD adopts 2023 county hazard mitigation plan to preserve eligibility for federal relief

The Northern Lebanon School District board voted June 3 to adopt the Lebanon County 2023 Hazard Mitigation Plan, a county-produced plan that helps jurisdictions qualify for certain federal disaster-recovery and hazard-mitigation funds.
Dr. Reese told the board the plan identifies mitigation projects the county can pursue if funding becomes available and that a recent interpretation requires school districts to adopt the county plan as a governmental agency. "By adopting it, if there were to be a federal disaster declaration that would entitle the school district to disaster relief funds from FEMA, this would enable us to apply for those funds," a board member added.
Messinger and Reese said the district had been part of the county planning team in earlier drafts; they were unsure why the district had not previously adopted the 2023 plan. Four of the six county school districts had already adopted the plan.
The board approved items 11.1 through 11.3 — which included the plan and two energy contract renewals — by voice vote. Director England moved to approve the items; Director Bilau seconded. The motion carried unanimously.
