Speaker Ashlyn Auerkamp described a proposed path or road along the western edge of Sawgrass to shorten travel times for students, saying the current route is about 1.7 miles and that a connector could cut walking times nearly in half.
Staff response: Council and staff noted the property shown in the resident’s drawing does not belong to the city and is privately owned by the Platte Ranch, so the city cannot unilaterally build on that parcel. City staff also said Norfolk Parkway is scheduled for extension to Heritage Parkway and that such road projects typically take at least a year for design, permitting and stormwater work; if a related project advances as discussed with a referenced developer, construction might begin within about a year and finish within another year.
