Commission hears update on road deterioration; county clarifies special road district sign reimbursement policy

Joe said while the county keeps signs available for emergency use, it is the special road district's responsibility to purchase and install signs under normal circumstances. "My intention was to let the public know that if signs are needed quickly, we have them at our disposal," Joe said, adding that if the county installs signs on an emergency basis the special road district would reimburse the county and the county would bill the district.
Staff also said routine mowing and asphalt patching continue across county highways and that crews switch to culvert repairs during heavy rain. Commissioners and staff did not provide a timetable for permanent repairs for the deteriorating pavement; the engineers' core-sampling work was described as ongoing and expected to yield findings soon.
At the meeting, no formal action was taken on road repairs; discussion and clarification were provided as department reports.
