Pearland ISD says state budget bill adds per‑student funding and new teacher retention allotment; district to present compensation plan June 10

Superintendent, Pearland ISD, said the Texas House funding bill known as House Bill 2 would increase the district's per‑student funding and create a new teacher retention allotment.
"We are gonna get a $55 increase to the basic allotment," the superintendent said, and a new "ABC allotment...is gonna give us a hundred and $6 per student." The superintendent added that the bill includes several other allotments "that will help cover some special education costs, some security costs, some early education costs, some CTE."
The superintendent highlighted a teacher retention allotment designed for classroom compensation. "There's a an amount of $2,500 increase in compensation for teachers with years of experience 3 and 4. Then if you have 5 or more years of experience, there's a $5,000 increase to compensation," the superintendent said.
The district is working through its budget and a total compensation plan and will present that package to the Pearland ISD board on June 10, the superintendent said. "We will be presenting all of that to the board on June 10. So if you wanna hear more about compensation...we'll be talking about that June 10."
The superintendent said the funding "doesn't close the shortfall that we have," but that the district views the increases as helpful. The comments came in a brief update to the district community about pending state legislation and the local budget process.
The district did not provide an exact total dollar figure for how House Bill 2 would change Pearland ISD's overall budget or the number of employees affected. Those details, the superintendent said, are part of the budget and compensation materials to be presented to the board on June 10.
