Residents highlight local resources and announce Vietnam Wall visit to Fostoria

During the public comment portion of Monday’s Fostoria City Council meeting, resident Deb Tyson urged greater public awareness of local social services and resources and described where people can go for food, household supplies and clothing.
Tyson, of 800 Woodward Ave., told the council that the city website lists some resources but said many residents are unaware that Pantry Plus of Seneca County operates on U.S. 23 on Fridays at 9 a.m. for eligible clients. She said Pantry Plus requires a birth certificate for children, a piece of mail for proof of residence for children, and an ID for adults, and that the pantry provides dried foods, dairy, meat, laundry soap and pet food. Tyson also mentioned that Fostoria Baptist Church operates a pantry and clothing distribution on the last Sunday of each month at 6 p.m. on Lytle Street and that United Way houses First Call for Help information.
Also during public comment, Ed Sheeter announced plans to bring the national Vietnam Wall to Fostoria. Sheeter said organizers will escort the wall into town on June 26, departing Findlay at about 9:00 a.m. and arriving around 9:45 a.m. He said the opening ceremony will be at about 4:00 p.m. that day, with the wall open 24 hours a day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday for public viewing; volunteers were invited to help with setup and operations.
Both speakers addressed the council during the designated public-comment period; neither item resulted in a council action during the meeting.
