Trustees asked the Parks, Recreation and Forestry Committee to study parking and traffic control at Bakken Park after a recent weekend of heavy use left streets crowded and village staff and volunteers directing traffic.
Multiple trustees described scenes in which vehicles were parked along both sides of nearby residential roads, cars partially blocking travel lanes and some people parking on grass. The condition occurred as the park hosted a major youth tournament and the splash pad, skate park and other activities attracted families at the same time.
Parks staff said they had begun outreach to event organizers, including the rugby program, and planned to meet with organizers and public safety staff to develop short‑term traffic‑management measures and longer‑term options such as temporary event parking plans, shuttle arrangements or additional formal parking capacity. Trustee Paula, who requested the item, offered to provide photographs to staff to support the committee review.
No budget appropriation was made at the meeting. Staff said they will present parking‑mitigation options and any recommended capital or operational actions to the parks committee for future consideration.
