Cleveland Heights — A new Grocery Outlet is scheduled to open July 10 at a recently renovated commercial space on Noble Road, a property presenter told City Council on Tuesday.
Sal Russo, who updated the council on the project, said crews removed a mezzanine, separated utilities, replaced the roof and removed rooftop HVAC units before turning the interior over to Grocery Outlet’s construction crew in early December. "Everything inside is brand new," Russo said, listing new electrical service, HVAC, plumbing and refrigeration fixtures. (Sal Russo)
Russo said the independent owner-operators for the store are Michael Weber and Melissa Walsh, who have moved to the area and chose Cleveland Heights from among other options. "They're scheduled to open July 10," Russo said. He added construction crews planned only a few more weeks of work before the store team would begin stocking shelves and installing signage.
On the question of beer and wine sales, Russo said the operators intend to carry beer and wine but that permitting in Ohio has been "a slight challenge" because state rules and corporate/franchise arrangements require defining who holds the license. He said he had "filled out the forms requested of me" to help the owners proceed with the license process. (Sal Russo)
Council members thanked Russo for his family’s work to secure a grocer for the neighborhood and praised the investment in the property, including historically accurate work on the adjacent medical building scaffolded during restoration.
What’s next: The store is on schedule for a July 10 opening barring permitting delays; the owners and city staff will continue work on the alcohol permit and on final inspections before opening.
