Council staff sends rezoning request for 8.07 acres to Planning & Zoning; first reading set

City staff told the Tomball City Council on June 2 that a developer’s request to rezone about 8.07 acres from Single-Family 20 to Light Industrial conforms with the city’s updated future land-use designation of business park and industrial and will proceed to public hearings.
"That's for about 8.07 acres, and they want to rezone from single family 20 to light industrial," Craig (staff member) said. "This will be going to Planning and Zoning Commission next week with a public hearing, and then this will be brought to you for a public hearing and first reading of the ordinance on June 16."
Craig told council members the rezoning parcel sits adjacent to existing industrial properties and other recently approved industrial rezonings near Persimmon and Medical Complex. He said two homesteads lie immediately west of the property and that at least one homeowner the staff contacted said they support the rezoning. Craig also mentioned the citytree ordinance and buffering requirements that would apply to new industrial development along residential edges.
No vote was taken at the workshop on the rezoning request. The item will follow the standard review path: Planning and Zoning Commission public hearing, then a council public hearing and first reading scheduled for the June 16 council meeting, as staff outlined.
