State cybersecurity grant will provide services to Winter Haven at no direct cost, staff says

Hip Nguyen, an information technology staffer, briefed commissioners on the local government cybersecurity grant program during the June 4 agenda review. Nguyen said the award is a grant of services rather than a cash payment: content-delivery, email security and external-asset discovery services will be provided to the city to strengthen its cybersecurity posture.
Nguyen said there is no direct financial impact to the city for the services; in return, the city will transmit sensing and alert data to the statewide collaborative system the program uses to improve collective defenses. He described the program as a "whole-of-state" cybersecurity approach that allows municipalities to share information and reduce risk collectively.
Commissioners did not take action at the agenda review but were briefed that the program increases technical capabilities and that staff recommended acceptance of the services.
