Council rezones 1.7 acres on Stone Lake Drive to allow office building near Christ Academy

Wichita Falls City Council on June 3 approved rezoning roughly 1.7 acres on Stone Lake Drive from Single Family 2 to General Commercial to allow construction of an office building for a local financial planning practice.
Director of Development Services Terry Floyd presented the request, saying the four lots would be combined into one acre for an approximately 8,500-square-foot office building. He said the site sits near Christ Academy, the Bill Bartley YMCA and Grace Church and that the applicant and architect had worked to maintain a residential look to fit the surrounding neighborhood.
Floyd told council the Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously recommended approval and staff supported the request. A conceptual site plan was shown to demonstrate landscaping, green space and a design intended to match neighborhood character.
After a brief council comment thanking the applicant and staff for sensitivity to neighborhood character, council closed the public hearing and unanimously approved the rezoning and land-use plan amendment to commercial. Staff said the lots will be combined and follow the normal site-plan and permitting process for commercial development.
