Wichita Falls City Council voted June 3 to voluntarily annex about 2 acres at 2707 West Rathgeber Road and to designate the parcel Single Family 2 with a low-density-residential land-use classification.
Terry Floyd, director of development services, told the council the annexation is owner-requested and will be accompanied by a service plan under Texas Local Government Code Chapter 43 that allows the applicant to extend roughly 500 feet of new public water line to serve a single-family home. Floyd said the applicant and their representatives were present and that staff and the Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval.
Floyd said the tract abuts existing city limits and surrounding zoning is predominantly Single Family 2, making the requested zoning consistent with neighboring parcels. He noted the Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously recommended the zoning and that the applicant will pay for and construct the water-line extension as part of the development process.
Council closed the public hearing and approved the annexation and zoning and the associated service-plan agreement. Floyd said the annexation will create a small jog in the city limits but is the standard outcome when property owners petition for voluntary annexation.
No public opposition was reported during the hearing. The action authorizes staff to implement the annexation and proceed with the utility extension planning and permitting steps required for the construction of the water line and the new home.
