The Green River City Council voted to accept additional federal Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) grant funds for the Riverside Memorial Park riverbank enhancement project and to make matching funds available.
Ryan Russ, government affairs and grants, told the council the city had earlier received an LWCF grant for bank replacement and playground equipment at Riverside Memorial Park and had completed the playground portion. After receiving bids for bank replacement, the city found the original grant amount would be short. “They have awarded those funds to us in the amount of a hundred and $86,478 that would allow us to complete the project based on our current projections,” Russ said.
Russ explained the LWCF award requires a 50/50 match and that the city had already set aside additional funds in its budget for grant matching. He said the additional city funds needed to meet the match are “less than the 186,000. It's actually about 62,000,” and that the city expects the final match obligation to be “probably a little bit less than that, actually.” The city will use an existing line item for grant matching to provide its share.
Councilman Williams moved to adopt the resolution making additional matching funds available and accept Amendment 2 to the grant agreement; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote.
The amendment accepts the newly awarded LWCF funds and commits the city to the 50% match obligation. No additional budget appropriation beyond the previously budgeted grant-matching line item was recorded at the meeting; Russ indicated staff would use that existing budget line to cover the match and would finalize contract amendment paperwork.
