Beltrami County commissioners approved a countywide mailbox-support policy after a presentation from county staff that included preliminary cost information and a federal grant estimate.
Commissioner Carlson moved to approve the proposed mailbox support policy and Commissioner Winger seconded. During discussion a commissioner asked whether the work would be an annual expense and requested concrete cost numbers. County staff (Bruce) said he had not pulled all cost numbers on short notice but cited a federal grant expected next year of $162,000 that would require a local match and estimated the grant could support replacement of about 1,200 supports. He also noted the county’s Schedule B currently lists $0 for these supports and that the county has not tracked annual counts precisely, saying the supports are purchased as needed within the existing budget.
The board voted to approve the mailbox-support policy. The motion carried (voice vote recorded as 4–1).
