Board approves school budget amendments totaling about $879,000 across funds

The Goochland County Board of Supervisors on June 3 approved consent‑agenda resolutions amending county budgets and appropriating additional funds to the school division.

Interim County Administrator Manny Alvarez presented three related consent items, saying the first two relate to school budget adjustments made after the county approved its budget because the Commonwealth or school figures changed. Alvarez described the items as: an amendment appropriating $535,000 to the school operating fund and $11,000 to the cafeteria fund; a second amendment appropriating $342,000 to the school operating fund, $1,000 to the textbook fund and $1,700 to the cafeteria fund; and a third resolution requesting VDOT accept Player Estates subdivision streets into the secondary system (this last item had been pulled earlier in the meeting at VDOT’s request and was not acted on).

Supervisor Lyle noted the board had previously allocated additional support to schools and said the county would not seek to recoup state sales‑tax funding that also became available. “We’re continuing to step up and commit,” Lyle said, praising school staff and graduates. The board approved the consent agenda as presented by voice vote; no roll call was recorded for the consent vote in the transcript.

The approvals authorize the listed appropriations and intra‑fund transfers identified in the resolutions. The county’s finance staff (Carla Cave was present as the county finance partner) are available for specific line‑item questions. The board moved on to appointments and then recessed for a dinner break; the public hearing session reconvened at 6 p.m.
