New Carlisle council renews 0.5% municipal income tax to fund police contract through 2030

The City of New Carlisle City Council voted unanimously to renew the city's existing one-half percent municipal income tax for a five-year period beginning July 1, 2025, to continue funding police expenses.
Council considered Ordinance 2024-76 (reintroduced May 19) in a public hearing and approved the measure on a voice vote. The ordinance amends sections 881.02 and 881.03 of the city's codified ordinances to continue the tax from 07/01/2025 through 06/30/2030.
An explanation presented to council said the renewal is intended to maintain the city's contract for law enforcement with the Clark County Sheriff's Department. “This is to renew our 5-year contract for law enforcement with the sheriff's department,” the presenter said during the ordinance discussion.
The ordinance passed on a unanimous vote of the seven-member council.
The measure will appear in the codified ordinances as amended; next administrative steps include any required filings and monitoring of the tax proceeds to ensure they are applied to policing expenses as specified in the ordinance.
