Board approves Griffin Park community day and hears timetable for basketball-court milling and overlay

The Park Board of Commissioners on June 4 approved a request from Mark Conrad to use Griffin Park for an annual community day on June 21 and discussed planned repairs to the park's basketball courts.
Parks staff told the board that playground wood chips under the swings have already been replenished and that crews have painted half of the white columns surrounding the park, with the remainder scheduled to be finished the next day. A contractor is being contacted to price a milling and overlay for two of the three basketball courts; staff said the milling and overlay work would take several months to schedule and complete. "When it's done, 2 brand new courts," a staff member said, noting that the third court on the John/Fifth Street side is in the best condition.
Commissioner Helen Rigo moved to approve the park request; Commissioner Amber Burns seconded. The board voted in favor and the motion carried. Commissioners asked staff to continue coordinating the court resurfacing plan and to return with firm timelines once contractor pricing is finalized.
