The applicant estimated the material cost at about $700, with roughly $600 for lumber, and said the installation should take "2 or 3 days." The board approved the project with a motion and second and no recorded opposition.
The applicant told the board that the steps are tied into the hillside with rebar at top and bottom, that the work is intended to be low impact and limited to small trenching, and that the steps are expected to last 10 to 15 years with routine checks after the first one to two years. The applicant said the plan is to seek mostly donated materials and then ask a local "Alliance" to take on long-term maintenance after the initial period.
The applicant also described required approvals before work begins: sign-off by an Ice Age Trail representative, review by the Harris Committee, and approval by the Eagle Scout project coordinator. The applicant said early August would be an ideal start date pending those approvals.
