The City of Carmel Board of Public Works and Safety on June 4 approved several event requests to use city streets and property, authorizing a package of events the board took together.
Gabby Bear, president of the Carmel Runners Club, described her nonprofit’s planned use of Midtown Plaza on Saturday morning, July 12. Bear said the free community event celebrates the start of training for fall races, honors six Hamilton County Schools scholarship winners, and typically runs a couple of hours with tents and tables for prepackaged snacks and coffee.
An unnamed speaker addressed the board about a Jewish festival planned for Aug. 24, describing it as a community‑focused celebration of Jewish culture with food and music intended to be welcoming and positive. Katina Washington, founder of Sheev and Andy, introduced a proposed Carmel Eats event to showcase entrepreneurs, artisans and food vendors; she described the event as family friendly and an opportunity for small businesses to connect.
After the public presentations, the board moved to approve items 5a through 5j as a group. A motion to approve carried; the chair said all the listed events were approved. No permits, insurance, or staging details were discussed on the record; staff indicated all departments had approved the events prior to the board vote.
