Monongalia County commissioners certified the county’s 2024 delinquent real estate and personal property tax lists during their June 4 meeting after a presentation by Sheriff Forbes and the county’s chief tax deputy.
Kelly, identified in the meeting as the county’s chief tax deputy, reported the delinquent totals: $4,598,870.66 in real estate delinquencies and approximately $4,000,006.92 in personal property delinquencies, for a combined total reported at about $9,000,002.91. Kelly said the overall uncollected percentage was roughly 6.82 percent.
Kelly told commissioners that the rise in personal‑property delinquencies reflected one large entity that missed payment and received a backbill for 2023 and 2024, creating an approximately $1.8 million portion of the increase; aside from that situation, she said the net difference was nearer $500,000.
On collection expectations, Kelly said real estate taxes are typically collected at nearly 100 percent, while personal property collections historically leave about 2–3 percent uncollected. Sheriff Forbes introduced the item and yielded to Kelly for the details.
A commissioner moved to approve and certify the delinquent tax list, another commissioner seconded, and the commission approved the certification by voice vote.
No additional action or appropriation was made during the meeting; the certification forwards the lists for clerk reporting and further collection steps under county procedures.
