City staff to take final sign-code draft to Planning & Zoning in July, council likely to consider amendment in August

Raymore planning staff told the council Monday that the city's Unified Development Code sign chapter is ready for a public hearing before the Planning & Zoning Commission and that the city council will likely consider the amendment after that recommendation.
Staff member Gress said the planning department presented an initial draft to the planning commission in late September as part of the annual UDC review and has since solicited feedback from businesses that frequently pull sign permits and from other jurisdictions. Gress said the department has completed a near-final draft and has performed a legal review with staff attorney Zurer.
Given the requirement to publish a public hearing for a UDC amendment, staff scheduled the Planning & Zoning Commission hearing for July; pending the commission's recommendation, the council is likely to take up the ordinance in August. Staff asked councilors to expect a comprehensive sign-code package rather than a narrowly focused change.
No action was taken Monday beyond scheduling the public process; staff said it will return with the Planning & Zoning Commission's recommendation for council consideration.
