Raymore council previews 11 board and commission appointments to appear on consent agenda

Raymore City staff presented a slate of 11 proposed appointments and reappointments to city boards and commissions and told the council the items will appear on the consent agenda at the next regular meeting.

Staff said the list includes two planning and zoning appointments, one arts commission appointment, openings and reappointments on the parks and recreation board, and five entries for the licensed tax review committee (most of those entries are incumbents). Council members were told the mayor traditionally nominates the mayor pro tem to a board seat and that directors of the affected departments had spoken with the nominees and were comfortable with the proposals.

Council members asked procedural questions about discussing individual nominees during the meeting and about the mechanics of pulling a consent item for separate consideration. Staff said if a councilor wishes to remove an individual from consent, they may make a motion during the consent portion of the regular meeting to pull that item; discussion on a pulled item would occur before the up-or-down vote. Staff also reminded the council that the mayor makes appointments with the advice and consent of the council and that, if an individual is not approved, the mayor may return with an alternate nominee.

No votes were taken at the work session; staff asked councilors to raise any concerns individually prior to the regular meeting if they wished to discuss specific nominees.
