School committee accepts civic education and Thinking Classrooms grants; approves music trip to Nashville

A motion to accept the FY26 civics grant passed unanimously.
In a separate, late addition to the packet, the Hingham Education Foundation notified the district it would award $70,000 to expand the Thinking Classrooms initiative. The foundation’s funding will finance building out three eighth‑grade classrooms at the middle school and continuing professional development for secondary mathematics teachers. The committee voted to accept the award.
The committee also approved a proposed Hingham High School music department trip to Nashville in March 2026. Brian Sincotta (identified on the call as a music department representative) described an itinerary that includes the Grand Ole Opry, Ryman Auditorium, RCA Studio B, the Johnny Cash Museum and the Nashville Symphony, and said the trip typically runs about three nights. He estimated the student cost would be about $2,000. Committee members asked whether the trip conflicts with MCAS; staff confirmed it does not. A motion to approve the trip passed without recorded opposition.
