Everman adopts resolution opposing Tarrant County redistricting proposal

The Everman City Council on Tuesday approved a resolution formally opposing proposed Tarrant County precinct redistricting plans and calling for greater transparency and analysis of local impacts.

Council approved Resolution No. 2025-05-01 after staff warned that each of five proposed county maps would shift maintenance facilities away from Precinct 1 and could leave smaller cities without county street-maintenance support. A staff summary said that if the maintenance facility is removed from Precinct 1, the city would lack the staffing and capacity to maintain its streets without county assistance.

A motion to approve the resolution was moved by Place 2, seconded and carried by unanimous recorded “Aye” votes from Place 2, Place 3, Place 4, Place 5, Place 6 and the mayor.

City staff told the council they attempted to engage county staff about the proposals but received little detail about how services and responsibilities would be allocated under the new maps. Staff and outside attorneys reviewed the county process and raised constitutional and operational concerns, the report said. In addition to a request for more transparency, the resolution asks for an impact analysis and protection of municipalities’ operational needs.

The council’s resolution does not change county maps or halt the county’s process; it formalizes the city’s objections and asks Tarrant County officials to revisit the proposed changes before a scheduled county vote in June.
