City reports sewer, park and paving progress; schedules fireworks fundraiser and July 3 celebration

Council member Mack updated the Defiance City Council on June 3 on multiple public-works projects and community events.
Mack said sewer-line projects on Greenhouse and Pleasant are wrapping up with final trench work and area restoration remaining. He said a project at Veterans Memorial Park at Lattice Grove has fencing up near the railroad and will include new shelter pads and sidewalks; contractors have until September to complete sidewalks.
On streets work, Mack said the city’s paving contract will begin within about two weeks, with Edgewood and Cleveland Avenue among the areas scheduled. In-house water-line replacement on Hawkins Street is about halfway finished, and crews have been replacing ADA curb ramps downtown.
Mack reported Jefferson Street is ready to be put out for bid, likely in mid-June, after delays caused by design coordination between ODOT and city systems.
On community events, Mack said the Development and Visitors Bureau (DVB) is holding a fireworks fundraiser on Friday, June 13 (11 a.m.–1 p.m.; $10 tickets) and that the city’s fireworks celebration is set for Thursday, July 3, from 4 p.m. to dusk at Kingsbury Park, Pontiac Park and other foregrounds; he also listed family activities planned for the celebration.
Less-critical details: Mack noted one ADA ramp near the Development and Visitors Bureau office had been a trip hazard for about a year and is being corrected; he also said a February water-line replacement remains awaiting bridal plans review and hopes to outbid it by month-end.
