Council sets public hearings for Centennial fund transfer and $3 million roads-and-sidewalks request

The Beverly City Council on June 2 voted to set public hearings on two requests from the mayor’s office that would use certified free cash.
Order 176 requests a $100,000 transfer from certified free cash into the city’s Centennial Fund; the Finance & Property Committee recommended setting a public hearing for June 16 at 8:10 p.m. Council members approved the hearing date.
Order 177 requests a $3,000,000 transfer from certified free cash into the road and sidewalk capital fund to supplement Chapter 90 funds and other resources. Finance & Property recommended a public hearing for June 16 at 7:45 p.m.; the council approved setting that hearing. The mayor earlier described combining $3 million from reserves with Chapter 90 and National Grid commitments to provide “well over $8,000,000 this year” for pavement, sidewalk and safety improvements.
Finance chair and councilors said the hearings will allow the council to vet the scope and timing of proposed projects and to coordinate supplemental funding from state and private sources. The hearings were scheduled alongside other budget and grant hearings in mid‑June so the council can consider capital needs during the FY2026 deliberations.
