The Lake City Council on June 2 adopted on first reading ordinance 2025-2320 accepting a voluntary annexation petition submitted by the Columbia County Board of County Commissioners.
Staff described the petition to annex parcel 07479-001 as contiguous to the city boundary, reasonably compact and meeting applicable statutory criteria for voluntary annexation. The parcel is located southwest of the Lake City Airport. No public comment was offered. The council voted by roll call to adopt the ordinance on first reading; Miss Sykes recorded affirmative votes from Councilmember Carter, Councilmember Harris, Councilmember Young, Councilmember Jernigan and Mayor Walker.
City Attorney Martin noted the criteria for adoption include contiguity, compactness and owner signatures for the area proposed to be annexed and other compliance with state law. The ordinance makes findings of fact and authorizes the annexation to proceed per statutory procedure.
