The Board approved a request from the Mayor’s Youth Leadership Council to paint a mural on the generator outside City Hall.
Taylor McHenry, a junior at the high school and member of the Mayor’s Youth Leadership Council, presented the design and said the public art advisory committee and a member of the arts council assisted with paint selection and materials suitable to resist fading. McHenry said the design includes local motifs — strawberries, fireworks and other community imagery — and that she and volunteers will complete the work, using a projector to trace the design onto the generator for painting.
Board members confirmed the public art advisory committee had approved the design and that the arts council would assist; the board moved, seconded and approved the mural request. McHenry said the group hopes to complete the mural by the end of summer.
The board asked that the design and supplies conform to durability recommendations; staff noted there was no donation from the generator manufacturer and that brand logos would be left unpainted unless permission is obtained.
