The board approved a request from Habitat for Humanity to waive the building permit fee and sewer connection permit fee for a new single-family home on Young Street.
Lee Ann Wilburn, executive director of Habitat for Humanity (affiliate), told the board the project will be the affiliate’s 26th house and that 11 of their 25 prior houses were in Franklin. Wilburn said the Young Street home is for a single mother with two teenage children who works for the Franklin Community School Corporation and drives a school bus for the district.
Wilburn asked for a waiver of the $382.60 building permit fee and the $2,674 sewer connection permit fee to reduce project costs. Board members expressed support, noting a prior house on the lot and the organization’s track record; one board member raised the point that sewer fees support the upcoming sewer plant but still supported waiving fees for this house because of Habitat’s purpose.
A motion to waive the two fees was made, seconded and approved. Wilburn thanked the board for the city’s partnership.
